The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has officially partnered with MTN Nigeria to introduce complimentary WiFi services at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Terminal 2, located in Lagos, alongside the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The launch of this service was held on Thursday at the Lagos terminal.
FAAN's Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Olubunmi Kuku, represented by Abdullahi Mahmood, the Director of Airport Operations, pointed out that this initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance the passenger experience and expand the digital infrastructure at Nigerian airports.
FAAN has announced that the complimentary WiFi will eventually be available at the temporary terminal of MMIA and other international airports across Nigeria within the coming three months.
Officials confirmed that the project is arranged as a public-private partnership between FAAN and MTN Nigeria.
Lynda Saint-Nwafor, Chief Enterprise Business Officer at MTN Nigeria, who spoke on behalf of CEO Karl Toriola at the event, assured attendees of the service's reliability and security.
FAAN described this WiFi rollout as a significant step forward in modernizing airport facilities, but they did not disclose specific details regarding funding and maintenance arrangements at the launch.
Travelers have frequently raised concerns about the limited or unreliable internet service available at major Nigerian airports, especially during busy travel times.
Furthermore, FAAN has yet to clarify whether the free WiFi service will have time limits per user or be subject to bandwidth restrictions.
