The Federal Government has announced plans to establish Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicle hubs in the Funtua Local Government Area of Katsina State. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to expand the adoption of clean energy in the transportation sector.

Ismail Ahmed, Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative, revealed these plans during a meeting with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda at the Government House in Katsina. Ahmed stated that the proposed facilities would encompass CNG refueling stations, electric vehicle charging points, and vehicle conversion centres. Additionally, the program aims to train 500 youths in the state to build essential technical expertise.

He further indicated that the Federal Government intends to supply Katsina with 100,000 vehicle conversion kits. The plan also includes the distribution of CNG-powered tricycles and cars to improve mobility and access across the state.

According to Ahmed, the overarching goal of this initiative is to stimulate logistics, generate employment opportunities, and upgrade the workforce's technical capabilities. He emphasized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's dedication to ensuring the project's successful execution.

Ahmed highlighted the urgency for Nigeria to embrace CNG and electric vehicles, especially in light of escalating global energy prices. He described the transition as vital for achieving sustainable development.

In his remarks, Governor Radda confirmed that the state government has already made significant strides by acquiring intercity buses, electric tricycles, and motorcycles. His administration has also begun converting existing vehicles to run on CNG and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG).

He pointed out that these efforts have already led to a reduction in transportation expenses, an increase in earnings for individuals, and the creation of entrepreneurial prospects, particularly for the youth.

Radda also shared that an additional CNG station is currently under construction. This new facility is expected to supplement the existing infrastructure and cater to the rising demand for such services throughout Katsina State.

He identified Funtua as a key location for the project due to its significance as an economic centre. Governor Radda reiterated his administration's commitment to furthering the cause of clean energy transportation in alignment with the nation's developmental objectives.
