The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has repudiated viral claims that warned the public against engaging with SMS links concerning its 'Operation Go Cashless' initiative.

In a statement released on Friday evening, FAAN referred to these warnings as 'misinformation circulating regarding SMS notifications' related to the launch date of the program.

The comments came following the distribution of a counter-message that urged recipients to refrain from clicking on the SMS link, alleging it was a scam that could lead to financial theft.

FAAN responded by stating that this assertion was 'false, misleading, and unfounded.'

The authority clarified that the legitimate SMS notification informing the public about the rollout of Operation Go Cashless was genuinely issued by FAAN in collaboration with MTN Nigeria, as part of a broader sensitization campaign across the nation.

FAAN confirmed that the Operation Go Cashless program is set to begin on March 1, 2026, stating that the SMS alerts announcing the commencement date are indeed authentic.

These messages are integral to FAAN's transition to a comprehensive cashless and contactless payment system at airport payment centers nationwide. This initiative comes amid rising public concern over digital scams, prompting many Nigerians to be cautious about clicking on suspicious links.

The authority has urged the public to disregard any counter-messages and trust only the communications issued through its verified channels. FAAN emphasized its commitment to transparency and the safety of passengers as the implementation of the new payment system approaches.
