The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is currently conducting DNA analysis on a glove that was found in proximity to Nancy Guthrie's home in Arizona, heightening efforts to locate a suspect related to her abduction.
According to investigators, the glove bears similarities to those worn by a masked individual who was recorded on doorbell camera footage shortly before the 84-year-old woman was taken two weeks prior. The footage allegedly shows a man in a ski mask trying to tamper with the security system of the house during early morning hours.
Results from preliminary DNA tests carried out at a private lab in Florida were sent to federal officials over the weekend. Authorities noted that these findings are currently undergoing quality control checks before being entered into CODIS, the Combined DNA Index System, a national DNA database maintained by the FBI. A search of the database could potentially yield a match within 24 hours of submission.
The glove is among approximately 16 other gloves retrieved from a field alongside a road about two miles from Guthrie's residence in Tucson. Most of these gloves were identified as having been dropped by search teams, yet investigators highlighted that the glove sent for DNA testing is considered “different” and possibly related to the suspect captured in the surveillance footage.
Nancy Guthrie, who is the mother of Savannah Guthrie, was last seen on January 31, after her family left her home following a meal together. She was reported missing the following day. Authorities have indicated that her limited mobility would have made it impossible for her to have left her home without help.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos has identified the masked individual seen in the footage, who was also observed carrying a firearm and a large backpack, as the central suspect in this case.
Investigators confirmed previously that blood found on Guthrie’s porch matched her DNA. Additional unidentified DNA samples have been collected from her property, although outcomes from these tests remain unpublished.
Since her abduction, at least two purported ransom notes have surfaced at media outlets; however, law enforcement officials maintain that there has been no direct contact between the suspected captors and the Guthrie family.
In a recent video shared on social media, Savannah Guthrie, an NBC “Today” co- anchor, appealed for anyone with relevant information to step forward, expressing, “We still have hope,” and urging those with her mother to act with compassion.
Law enforcement confirmed that a nearby residence was searched under a federal warrant over the weekend, and a person was questioned following a related traffic stop, though no arrests have been made.
As of now, authorities have not received any proof regarding whether Guthrie is alive or deceased since her reported kidnapping, and the investigation is still active.
