The Commissioner of Police for the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), CP Miller G. Dantawaye, held discussions with traditional rulers, community leaders, and village heads, encouraging them to educate their communities on the importance of treating the upcoming chairmanship election on February 21, with seriousness but without viewing it as a "do-or-die" situation.

While visiting the residences of the Sa’peyi of Garki, HRH Alhaji Dr. Usman Nga Kupi, and the Gomo of Kuje, HRH Alhaji Dr. Haruna Tanko Jibrin, he emphasized that traditional rulers, who serve as custodians of their communities, should counsel residents to maintain peace before, during, and after the election.

Throughout these meetings, the CP also interacted with local community leaders, including 36 village heads from the Garki District and 124 village heads from the Kuje Area Council.

CP Dantawaye underscored the significance of fostering peaceful coexistence, tolerance, and shared responsibility as the election approaches within the territory.

He cautioned that elections should not be perceived as a desperate measure, asserting that democratic processes afford ongoing opportunities. He stressed that the results of elections should never be used as an excuse for violence or disorder.

According to him, the primary objective is to ensure that elections across the FCT are conducted smoothly, credibly, and without violence.

The Commissioner further urged traditional leaders and community spokespersons to utilize their influence to encourage their people to reject violence, remain vigilant against misinformation, and collaborate with security forces throughout the electoral process.

CP Dantawaye highlighted that these courtesy visits form part of the command's community policing and stakeholder engagement approach aimed at enhancing cooperation between law enforcement and local populations.

He also called on the residents of the FCT to report any emergencies or suspicious activities promptly through the police command's emergency lines at 08032003913 and 08028940883.
