FCT Police Safely Rescue Mentally Challenged Woman and Newborn Child

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has successfully rescued a woman identified as mentally challenged and her newborn baby girl. The pair was found after the woman delivered the child by the roadside in Kwali Area Council.

The FCT Police Command has reported the successful rescue of a woman experiencing mental health challenges along with her newborn baby.

The command's spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, detailed in a statement that on April 3rd, at approximately 12:30 AM, police officers from the Rapid Response Squad on patrol in Kwali, FCT, were alerted to an unidentified woman, believed to be mentally challenged, who had just given birth to a baby girl on the roadside in Kwaita Village.

Following the report, the Officer in Charge of the Gender Unit in Kwali Division, accompanied by her team, swiftly proceeded to the location. Both mother and infant were safely taken from the scene and transported to the General Hospital in Kwali. After receiving necessary medical care, they were both discharged in stable health.

As per standard welfare protocols, the Officer in Charge of Welfare for Kwali Area Council, Mr. Sadiq Kwali, was informed. The mother and child were subsequently transferred to his care and have now been relocated to the FCT Children’s Home in Wako, Gwagwalada Area Council, where they will receive ongoing support and care.
