The Nigerian government has sanctioned a budget of six billion Naira for the development of three large-scale educational institutions in Gombe State.

Uba Ahmadu, the Minister of Regional Development, disclosed this information during the inauguration of a 250-bed hostel built by the North East Development Commission (NEDC) in Kumo, the administrative center of Akko Local Government Area.

The minister confirmed that the three institutions will be built by the NEDC.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the three mega schools will be established in the districts of Dadin Kowa (Gombe Central), Dukku (Gombe North), and Kaltungo (Gombe South).

The minister noted that this initiative is part of a larger effort to improve the educational landscape, making it more appealing, accessible, and competitive, especially in areas that have faced significant developmental hurdles over the years.

He highlighted the importance of education in aligning with national standards and narrowing the educational divide between the North-east and other regions of Nigeria.

"The federal government is intent on creating contemporary learning environments that motivate students and enhance their academic performance," stated Mr. Ahmadu.

NAN also indicated that these mega schools will come equipped with essential amenities, including adequate accommodation for students, which the minister emphasized would help foster a conducive environment for concentration and learning.

Mr. Ahmadu commended the Gombe State government for its partnership with the NEDC, aiming to make education both affordable and attractive to prospective students.

He referred to this collaboration as a benchmark for sustainable educational advancement and regional development.

NAN reports that these mega schools in Nigeria are designed to be state-led projects aimed at constructing large, modern school facilities, often outfitted with ICT centers, libraries, and purpose-built classrooms, all aimed at improving educational quality and infrastructure.

These projects, particularly in Northern Nigeria, seek to establish safe learning spaces for a multitude of students, especially internally displaced persons (IDPs) and orphans.
