Scene related to the attack in Benue State.

A local resident, speaking anonymously, described how the assailants entered the community without raising immediate suspicion and proceeded directly to the monarch's palace. They then opened fire on him and his family members.

Witnesses reported that the attackers initially mingled with the locals, using the local dialect in their interactions, which prevented early detection of their hostile intent. However, upon entering the traditional ruler's home, they began shooting, prompting panic and efforts by residents to seek safety.

The operation by the gunmen is said to have lasted approximately 20 minutes. After the attack on the monarch's residence, they reportedly moved to a neighbouring compound, where they killed two additional residents before fleeing the scene. One person was reported to have sustained injuries during the incident.

Melvin Ejeh, the Chairman of the Agatu Local Government Area, confirmed the tragic incident, stating that five people lost their lives and one person was injured. He noted that security forces, including the police, have visited the scene to investigate.

Efforts to obtain immediate details from the state's Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Udeme Edet, were ongoing at the time of reporting.
