Musbau Esinrogunjo, who previously served as an aide to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, has been sentenced by the Kwara State High Court to nine months in prison.

The court found Esinrogunjo guilty of obstructing the duties of a police officer and causing a disturbance to public peace.

Justice E. B. Muhammed issued the ruling after a lengthy trial that extended over three years.

Esinrogunjo was represented in court by Kehinde Eleja (SAN).

During the proceedings, he was determined to have interfered with a police officer’s lawful actions, which could have led to a breach of public peace.

He received a three-month imprisonment sentence without option for fine for obstructing the police officer, Sergeant James, while the officer was performing his duties.

Additionally, the court imposed a six-month sentence for disturbing public peace, an offense for which he has the option to pay a fine of N2,000 in lieu of serving the time.

The prosecution presented four witnesses, which included the police officer who was obstructed.

Esinrogunjo is also facing charges related to a separate case of rape involving a 15-year-old girl named Aishat Kamardeen, with accusations lodged by the Kwara State Government concerning unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

On the day of the court hearing, Esinrogunjo's attorney, Barrister Oyeyipo from J.S Bamgboye (SAN), sought additional time until June to review the amended documents related to this case. However, the court declined this request, emphasizing the necessity for swift action in criminal matters.

The rape case has been postponed to March 21 before Justice Funsho Lawal, while Esinrogunjo remains in custody.

The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mohammed Akande, represented the state in both cases.
