Former Footballer Friday Ekpo Assesses Super Eagles' AFCON 2025 Potential

Friday Ekpo, a former Nigerian international footballer, has conveyed his belief that the existing Super Eagles team, which obtained bronze at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), is equipped to compete against any top-tier nation globally.

Nigeria secured third place at AFCON 2025 after overcoming Egypt in a tense penalty shootout, winning 4-2, which marks a commendable conclusion to the tournament for the three-time African champions.

In an interview with Completesports.com, Ekpo praised the overall performance of the Eagles, noting their remarkable movement and fluidity in play throughout the event.

"The AFCON 2025 showcased the best of the Super Eagles, as their movement and transitions during matches were outstanding," Ekpo remarked.

He highlighted that, apart from their semi-final defeat to Morocco, which ended in a penalty shootout, he was generally impressed by the team's performances across the board.

Ekpo also acknowledged the notable contributions of the attacking players, specifically Ademola Lookman, Victor Osimhen, and Akor Adams, stating that their speed and goal-scoring capabilities posed significant challenges for rival defenders.

"The Super Eagles' attack was a source of great joy for me, as Lookman, Osimhen, and Akor managed to score spectacular goals during the tournament," he stated.

Ekpo concluded with a strong assertion: "There is no doubt that the current team is capable of competing with any team worldwide."
