Sheleru Sadiq Olalekan, who served two terms as a councilor in Ibeju-Lekki local government area of Lagos, has been detained by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) amid allegations of selling and trafficking illegal drugs.
In a statement issued on March 8, Femi Babafemi, the spokesperson for the NDLEA, confirmed that the 45-year-old ex-council leader, also a legislative aide, was arrested on Monday, March 2, 2026, at his home in Ilado, Ibeju- Lekki. During a search of the premises, agents uncovered 40 kilograms of skunk, a variety of cannabis, stashed in one of the rooms.
Babafemi noted, "During questioning, Sheleru acknowledged that the recovered materials and the residence belonged to him. He further stated that he had served two terms as a councilor representing the Orimedu community in the local government area," he explained.
In a separate but related incident, NDLEA operatives in the Federal Capital Territory apprehended Emeka Hyginus Okwor, a 32-year-old businessman, on Tuesday, March 3. Okwor was traveling in a vehicle from Obollo-Afor, Enugu State, to Zuba, FCT.
Upon inspecting his luggage, 1,000 pills of tapentadol, each 250mg, were discovered concealed within baby diapers. Babafemi added that the suspect claimed the drugs were intended for delivery to Guduwa village in Gurara Local Government Area of Niger State where he operates a provision store.
