Sunday Agang, a senior cleric of the Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA), has been set free a few days after being abducted from his residence in Jos, Plateau State.
The cleric, who previously served as the president of ECWA and currently holds the position of chairman of its Board of Trustees, was taken hostage on Tuesday morning in the Farin Gada area of Jos North Local Government.
On Friday, Danjuma Auta, the acting spokesperson for the church, announced that Agang had regained his freedom and was reunited with his family.
In a formal statement, the church expressed heartfelt gratitude and joy regarding the cleric's release, noting that he was abducted by unidentified gunmen. The message reassured that Agang is currently safe.
ECWA conveyed its thankfulness for the prayers that were offered during this trying period and acknowledged the support from both its members and external allies throughout the ordeal.
While welcoming the safe return of the cleric, ECWA highlighted the urgent issue of Nigeria's deteriorating security situation, emphasizing that abductions have become an escalating danger to the safety of the public.
The church called on government authorities at all levels to take immediate and effective measures to tackle insecurity, fulfilling their constitutional duty to protect lives and property.
Jos serves as the capital of Plateau State, which is among several regions in central Nigeria grappling with recurrent incidents of kidnapping and other forms of violent crime.
