Many young Nigerians face challenges in securing local employment opportunities, but the expanding global digital economy presents a significant alternative. CcHub's GATEWAY Program is designed to equip 340,000 Nigerian youths with essential digital competencies, thereby enabling them to access freelance work and earn income through online platforms.
The program is established as a five-year partnership between Co-creation HUB (CcHUB) and the Mastercard Foundation, with operations scheduled to commence in January 2026 across 10 different states. Its curriculum will concentrate on four primary skill domains: Digital Marketing, Graphic Design, UI/UX Design, and Video Production and Editing, with the objective of preparing participants for competitive global online employment.
The international freelance market is projected to grow substantially, reaching an estimated $1.85 trillion by 2032, which signifies immense potential for Nigerian youth. Unlike conventional jobs that are restricted by geographical location, online work allows young individuals to earn in foreign currencies by directly engaging with international clients. A statement from the program highlighted that "the demand for remote talent in Africa is accelerating significantly and GATEWAY’s focus is to capture this momentum and link 340,000 Nigerian youths directly to global income streams."
CcHub has structured the GATEWAY initiative to be inclusive, offering two distinct engagement tracks:
• Growth Pathway: This track is intended for individuals with existing digital talents who are focused on developing their portfolios and securing freelance opportunities.
• Foundation Pathway: This track is designed for individuals who are new to digital work and will focus on imparting fundamental digital and creative skills necessary for online employment.
Ojoma Ochai, the Managing Director of CcHUB, stated, "The GATEWAY Program represents a crucial, life-changing intervention in Nigeria’s youth unemployment challenge. We are setting a clear goal: to empower 340,000 Nigerian youths by linking them with high-demand creative digital skills and direct pathways to the global gig economy. This includes a deliberate focus on young women, Persons With Disabilities (PWDs), and displaced youth. Our commitment extends far beyond certification; we are dedicated to building a supportive financial and regulatory ecosystem that allows gig workers to access essential credit, insurance, and social security."
Ensuring access to technology is also a key aspect of the program. GATEWAY is collaborating with various tech hubs and community centers situated in Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Kaduna, Kano, Abuja, Delta, Edo, Rivers, and Enugu. These designated centers will furnish participants with computers, high-speed internet connectivity, and dedicated learning environments, ensuring that lack of equipment or internet access does not impede participation.
The program's overarching mission is to reach and support individuals facing significant employment barriers, including young women, persons with disabilities, and displaced youth. By equipping these demographics with sought-after digital skills, GATEWAY aims to enhance Nigeria's standing in the global workforce of the future.
Registration for the GATEWAY program is currently open on gateway.cchub.africa, presenting Nigerian youth with an opportunity to acquire vital skills, build professional portfolios, and access freelance job opportunities on a global scale.
