On Friday, Zamfara's Governor Dauda Lawal donated vehicles to 40 Imams from Jumma’at Mosques as a demonstration of support from the state government aimed at empowering them in their religious responsibilities.
During the presentation ceremony, Mr. Lawal emphasized that the donation was intended to boost the mobility of the Imams, facilitating their preaching and outreach to local communities.
He noted that the state of Zamfara is deeply rooted in Islamic values, with a significant number of Imams serving their respective communities across all 14 local government areas.
Mr. Lawal reiterated that enhancing the welfare of religious leaders is a key focus for his administration. "We are involved in building mosques and residences for Imams, and we consider it vital that they have the ability to move around easily," he remarked.
"Mobility is crucial, particularly for preaching and engaging with the community. This is why we have selected 40 Imams in this initial phase to receive vehicles that will facilitate their movements," added Mr. Lawal.
He also assured that the initiative would continue and mentioned that this was just the first phase of a larger program. He encouraged the Imams to pray for lasting peace in Zamfara and Nigeria as a whole.
Previously, the Governor's Special Adviser on Religious Affairs, Bello Almufty, praised Mr. Lawal as a leader committed to truth, justice, and inclusive development, citing that his administration has positively impacted the lives of religious leaders through tangible improvements in their welfare packages and salary allowances.
Atiku Zawiyya, representing the Imams, expressed gratitude towards Mr. Lawal for his support, stating that the gift would significantly enhance their ability to serve the community effectively.
He urged the governor to persist with this benevolent act, asserting that such actions merited prayers and divine blessings.
The recipients of the vehicles expressed their thanks to the government and committed to promoting peace, unity, and moral principles within their communities.
