Seyi Makinde, the Governor of Oyo State, has criticized Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, following Wike’s recent comments regarding the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) operations in Oyo State.

On February 2, Wike expressed a keen interest in the PDP's affairs within Oyo State, a statement perceived by many as a challenge to Governor Makinde's leadership role in the party in that region.

During a recent PDP National Executive Council meeting, Wike, who is known to be a rival of Makinde, emphasized that his focus is primarily on the PDP structure in Oyo State, where Makinde serves as the party leader.

In response to Wike’s statements while inaugurating a new PDP secretariat, Makinde characterized the comments as ill-timed, reaffirming that the party in Oyo remains stable, united, and focused.

He stated, "In Yoruba culture, we often say that a peaceful household indicates that the vagabond within has yet to mature. The vagabond elements in the PDP matured in 2015; their time has passed, and they were expelled in November 2025. Therefore, the PDP has no place for vagabonds anymore.

"A person has mentioned interest in PDP in Oyo State; ask him what contributions he has made for the PDP in his home state of Rivers," Governor Makinde remarked.
