Governor Radda Donates ₦50 Million Zakkat to State Board

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State presented a ₦50 million Zakkat contribution to the Katsina State Zakkat and Waqf Board for immediate distribution at a ceremony held at the Board’s headquarters.

Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has donated ₦50 million as part of his Zakkat to the Katsina State Zakkat and Waqf Board, which is set to distribute these funds to qualified beneficiaries throughout the state.

The donation was made on Tuesday at the 2026 Zakkat and Waqf distribution event, conducted at the Board's headquarters in Katsina.

During his address at the ceremony, Governor Radda praised the Board’s leadership and its stakeholders for their dedicated work in collecting and distributing Zakkat as mandated by Islamic teachings. He emphasized that Zakkat plays a vital role in fostering social justice and urged affluent individuals to fulfill this essential religious duty.

"Zakkat is not merely a charitable act; it is a responsibility that reinforces our community. It guarantees that the needy, vulnerable, and deserving individuals receive the necessary support," Governor Radda remarked.

He continued, encouraging generosity by stating, "By being charitable, we align with Allah's directives (SWT) and prioritize the well-being of our society. It gives me joy to contribute to this worthwhile initiative, and I call upon all capable individuals to uplift our community."

In addition to his financial contribution, Governor Radda inspected the Atta’awun Qur’anic Boarding School located in Kadarko Quarters, revealing that he financed 70 to 80 percent of the school’s establishment and development expenses.

He highlighted the school as a demonstration of commitment to enhancing religious education and community advancement, stressing that such institutions provide children with quality education in both academic and religious frameworks.

The governor also inaugurated a new Tailoring Skills Training Centre, established by the National Association of Zakkat and Waqf. He applauded the initiative and encouraged other organizations to replicate this model to empower citizens through skills development initiatives.

In earlier comments, Deputy Governor Faruk Lawal instructed the Zakkat and Waqf Board to evaluate the Zakkat obligations arising from his livestock enterprise and commended the Board for its efficient and transparent operation.

Muhammed Lawal Maidoki, the Chairman of the National Zakkat Commission and the Sokoto State Zakkat and Waqf Commission, expressed appreciation for the ongoing support and collaboration from the Katsina State Government in the Zakkat collection and distribution processes.

Similarly, Sheikh Ahmed Musa Filin Samji, Chairman of the Katsina State Zakkat and Waqf Board, recognized Governor Radda's unwavering personal backing, which has enabled significant progress for the Board. He disclosed that the Board successfully collected 120,000 bags of grains this year, exceeding last year’s total of 80,000 bags.

Moreover, during the visit, Sheikh Filin Samji briefed the Governor about the various segments of the Qur’anic Boarding School and led him and his team on a facility tour.

Additional notable contributors at this event included Ɗahiru Usman Sarki, who donated ₦25 million, and Senator Abdul’aziz Musa Ƴar’adua, who gave ₦10 million, embodying the spirit of generosity and community support encouraged by the Zakkat initiative.

The event saw participation from key government officials, members of the State Executive Council, senior Zakkat and Waqf Board personnel, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
