A Point of Sale (PoS) operator based in Onitsha, Vivian Amaka, has voiced her disappointment with the police, stating they have not taken action after she paid them N35,000 in an effort to apprehend a fraudster who defrauded her of N180,000. The operator detailed her experience on social media, expressing frustration over the perceived lack of diligence from law enforcement.
Amaka explained that her payment to the police was divided into two parts: N5,000 for a statement and N30,000 specifically for tracking the suspect. This was in addition to the N180,000 she lost to the individual who perpetrated the scam.
In a Facebook post shared on Monday, Amaka conveyed her strong dissatisfaction. "Pray let Nigeria not happen to u. If u have a problem that requires a report to the police, my dear, u are on ur own. They will just collect money from u without doing anything to help u," she stated.
She further elaborated on the incident, writing, "This thief came to my POS shop and scammed me 180k, and I had to report the case to the police."
Amaka recounted the financial transactions with the police, noting, "The police collected 5k for statement and 30k for tracking him, on top 180k that I lost to this thief."
Expressing her dismay at the lack of progress, she added, "Up till now, they are not giving me anything impressive. All I'm hearing from them is different cock n' bull stories."
Ultimately, Amaka concluded that she could no longer rely solely on the police for resolution. "It's now clear to me I have to look for my money in my own way and not relying solely on the police. This country is indeed a mess!!!", she declared.
