Dikko Umaru Radda, the Governor of Katsina State, has expressed his admiration for the Nigerian Armed Forces, highlighting their bravery, commitment, and sacrifice in safeguarding the nation's territorial integrity and ensuring the safety of its citizens. The governor was honored with the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem presented by the Nigerian Legion.
During the celebrations for the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance and Celebration Day, Governor Radda emphasized the role of the military as foundational to Nigeria's security system, especially in areas where insurgency and banditry are prevalent.
"Today, we pay tribute to the living and remember those who have fallen," he stated. "We celebrate the men and women in uniform who risk their lives daily so that we may rest peacefully. Their sacrifices warrant our deepest respect and support." The governor noted that, being a frontline state, Katsina has been a witness to the valor and professionalism displayed by the Armed Forces in dealing with security issues.
Governor Radda shared how the gradual restoration of peace in communities that once suffered from violence is a testament to the military's diligent operations and dedication to their duties. He also mentioned that his administration has prioritized partnerships with security agencies, offering logistical support, sharing intelligence, and engaging with communities to bolster military efforts.
The governor encouraged citizens to assist the Armed Forces by sharing reliable information, steering clear of activities that may undermine security efforts, and staying alert in their neighborhoods. He prayed for the souls of fallen heroes and for the safety of active military personnel.
In a separate occasion at the Government House in Katsina, Governor Radda received the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day emblem from Ahmad Husaini, a retired warrant officer and the chairperson of the Katsina State chapter of the Nigerian Legion. This decoration occurred after President Bola Tinubu's national launch of the emblem on December 2, 2025.
During the event, Mr. Husaini requested the governor’s support for the renovation of the Legion’s state office and to acquire necessary equipment. In response, Governor Radda instructed the state chairperson of the Legion to collaborate with the Commissioner for Rural Development to arrange for the office's renovation. He reaffirmed his administration's commitment to the welfare of retired military personnel.
The decoration ceremony is part of the events commemorating the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day, which honors the contributions of both deceased and serving members of the military, as well as veterans.
