Abba Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, has taken the significant step of abolishing the Ministry of Higher Education, which has resulted in the removal of Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, the deputy commissioner.

This decision was conveyed through a statement from the governor's spokesperson, Sunusi Bature, who indicated that this action is part of a comprehensive reform strategy aimed at the education sector of the state.

The statement outlined that the restructuring is intended to enhance coordination, eliminate redundancy in roles, and decrease governance expenses.

This move comes against a backdrop of increasing political tension, spurred by reported impeachment proceedings initiated against the deputy governor by the Kano State House of Assembly.

The plans for impeachment appear to stem from political divisions, particularly after Gwarzo was said to have declined to join Governor Yusuf in a switch to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Following the restructuring, the functions of the Ministry of Higher Education will be absorbed by the Ministry of Education, which will now oversee all educational responsibilities within the state.

Additionally, a new Directorate of Higher Education will be established within this ministry, tasked with managing activities related to tertiary education.

The directorate will be led by a Permanent Secretary and will be supported by necessary personnel to ensure effective administration of higher education institutions.

The statement also clarified that various agencies formerly associated with the dissolved ministry, including the Scholarship Board, will revert to the Ministry of Education.

Moreover, state-owned universities and other higher educational institutions will now fall under the supervision of the new directorate within the merged ministry.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that this restructuring aims to improve operational efficiency, enhance accountability, and bolster the overall quality of educational administration in Kano State.

He reaffirmed his administration's dedication to enacting reforms that would rejuvenate the education sector and expand opportunities for the youth.

In the directive, the governor instructed the Office of the Secretary to the State Government and the Office of the Head of Service to swiftly facilitate the realignment of the impacted ministries and departments.
