The governors of Taraba and Benue states have engaged in a significant security meeting in Wukari to confront persistent issues of insecurity that plague border areas in both states.

Agbu Kefas and Hyacinth Alia led delegations that included senior government officials, heads of security forces, and traditional leaders to explore sustainable solutions to the ongoing crisis.

Upon their arrival in Wukari, Governor Alia paid a visit to the Aku Uka of the Jukun Kingdom, Ishaku Adda Ali, acknowledging the pivotal role that traditional institutions play in fostering peace and stability.

Governor Alia expressed his intention to collaborate with the entire Benue State government team during this visit to reinforce partnerships with Taraba in tackling insecurity more effectively.

He highlighted the urgency for regional cooperation to restore peace and protect lives and property, given that both states face similar security threats.

Alia commended the Aku Uka for his contributions towards peace initiatives within the state and nationwide, emphasizing that working with traditional leaders is vital for achieving long-term security solutions. Governor Kefas characterized the joint meeting as proof of both leaders’ strong resolve to resolve the ongoing crisis. He declared that a collaborative committee would be set up to implement the decisions made during the meeting and to ensure ongoing oversight.

Additionally, the Tor Tiv, James Ayatse, underscored the necessity of peaceful coexistence between the residents of Taraba and Benue, urging all parties to prioritize dialogue and unity.

The Aku Uka expressed hope that the discussions would lead to positive outcomes and prayed for lasting peace in the affected regions.

The governors also visited internally displaced persons in Abako, Benue State, and Chanchanji, Taraba State, assuring them of enhanced security measures, a safe return to their homes, and the distribution of relief supplies to alleviate their suffering.
