Gunmen Assault Passenger Vehicle in Zamfara, Leaving One Child Dead and Several Abducted

A tragic attack by armed bandits on a passenger vehicle in Zamfara State resulted in the death of a one-year-old boy, injuries to a woman, and the abduction of several individuals. The incident occurred on January 26 as the vehicle was transporting passengers from Gusau market.

Armed assailants targeted a passenger vehicle on the Gusau–Kasheta Kura route in Birnin Magaji Local Government Area, Zamfara State, resulting in the death of a one-year-old baby, injuring a woman, and kidnapping several individuals.

The attack took place on January 26, 2026, around 7:45 p.m., as the vehicle was carrying passengers from the market in Gusau to Kasheta Kura village, according to security analyst Zagazola Makama.

Witnesses reported that the bandits opened fire on the vehicle, leading to the untimely death of the child, while a woman suffered a gunshot wound to her leg.

According to the same sources, the assailants kidnapped an unknown number of passengers, whisking them away to an undisclosed location.

Following the assault, troops were notified and promptly proceeded to the site to evacuate the deceased and the injured woman, transporting them to the General Hospital in Birnin Magaji for an autopsy and necessary medical care.

Efforts are currently underway to rescue the kidnapped passengers and apprehend those responsible for this heinous act.
