Gunmen Kill One, Abduct Imam and Worshippers Before Dawn in Katsina

In a series of violent incidents in Katsina State, bandits killed a local resident and abducted several individuals, including an Imam, in the Kankara Local Government Area. These attacks occurred in the early hours and have sparked concerns among the community.

Armed assailants launched an attack in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State, leading to the death of one individual and the abduction of several others.

As per security analyst Bakatsine, the first incident took place on the night of Thursday, March 5, 2026, around midnight in Gangaren Mangwarori, Kankara town. During this attack, the gunmen murdered a respected community member, Malam Surajo, and kidnapped an elderly woman known as Gwamma.

In a subsequent attack on Friday, March 6, around 6:00 am, the same criminals invaded the Marabar Gurbi community, part of the Kankara LGA.

Among the abducted victims was the community's second Imam, Malam Jamilu Marabar Gurbi, who was heading to the mosque for the Subhi (Fajr) prayer after the pre-dawn meal when the assailants struck.

These violent incidents have reignited fears among local residents, especially as they come despite reports of a peace agreement allegedly negotiated between Kankara community leaders and bandit factions ahead of the Ramadan season.
