Hezbollah Halts Lebanon Strikes Amidst Reports of US-Iran Ceasefire, Say Sources

Sources close to Hezbollah indicate the group has ceased attacks on northern Israel and Israeli forces within Lebanon. This development follows unconfirmed reports of a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, though Israel's Prime Minister has expressed skepticism regarding its applicability to Lebanon.

Hezbollah has reportedly suspended its shelling of northern Israel and Israeli military positions within Lebanon, according to three Lebanese individuals familiar with the group. This pause in hostilities began early Wednesday and is said to be linked to a reported ceasefire arrangement between the United States and Iran.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who reportedly played a mediating role in the negotiations, stated that a two-week truce would extend to the Lebanese border. Fighting between Iran-backed Hezbollah and Israel had initially resumed on March 2.

Contrasting these reports, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu indicated that any ceasefire would not encompass Lebanon. His government also issued a new evacuation order for a city in southern Lebanon, suggesting potential for continued Israeli military action.

Sources anticipate Hezbollah will issue a formal statement detailing its stance on the reported ceasefire and addressing Israel's position. The group's most recent communication, posted on Tuesday, mentioned carrying out attacks on Israeli troops in Lebanon the preceding evening.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in significant casualties, with over 1,500 individuals reportedly killed in Israel's military operations across Lebanon, including women and children. Furthermore, more than 1.2 million people have been displaced due to the sustained strikes and evacuation directives.

The Lebanese army has cautioned displaced residents against returning to their homes due to the persistent threat of Israeli attacks and the danger posed by unexploded ordnance.
