Families affected by a recent abduction incident in the Kubwa district of Abuja are urgently calling for government action.

Last week, armed assailants invaded homes in the area, looting valuables and abducting multiple women and children.

Among those taken is a nursing mother who had only given birth 40 days prior, resulting in her infant being left behind in her absence.

Yohanna Ciroma, the husband of the kidnapped mother, shared his anguish in an interview, stating that the event has disrupted the family’s life completely.

As of now, he reported that his sister is caring for their newborn child during this trying time.

"My wife, who is a nursing mother, was also among the kidnapped individuals,” Ciroma recounted while discussing the nightmare they are living through.

"Currently, our newborn baby is with my sister, who is ensuring the baby is fed until we can bring the mother back home."

Ciroma detailed that he discovered the kidnapping when a colleague, whom he had asked to visit his family, noticed something was amiss.

"I instructed one of my colleagues to check on my house. When he arrived, he found that my wife was unresponsive to his calls and realized someone had broken a window,” Ciroma explained.

In a state of panic, he rushed home and began searching the area after discovering that his wife was missing, emphasizing it has not even been a full 40 days since they welcomed their child.

Ciroma expressed profound concern for his baby who is now relying solely on family members for care.

"Even the baby is currently with my sister who is providing diapers and formula for him,” he stated.

Another family has also reported distressing circumstances, as four children were taken from their home in the same raid.

Gloria Anotu, the mother of the abducted children, made a heartfelt plea to the government for assistance in locating her children, who were taken from her without warning, while they were still in their nightwear.

"I urge the government to intervene so my children can be brought home. They are all that matter to me at this moment," Anotu implored tearfully.

She added that witnesses described the distressing scene of her children being forcibly taken away by the attackers, highlighting the trauma faced by her youngest daughter, aged six, who was already sick.

Anotu recalled how the kidnappers ransacked their residence, stealing various belongings.

"They broke into my house, rifled through every room, and left chaos in their wake," she recounted.

"They took everything, from food items like rice and oil to all our clothing. No item was spared."

Tony Anotu, the father of the abducted children, voiced his despair regarding the psychological toll this situation has had on his family, particularly the young ones.

"What we desperately need is help. We are Nigerians, yet we feel like prisoners in our own country while living under constant threat," he lamented.

Anotu expressed his distress about the unfolding conditions for the kidnapped children, stating they are now vulnerable without their parents.

"This ordeal hurts deeply. Their father is absent, their mother is taken, and now they are at the mercy of strangers armed with weapons,” he stated, calling upon Nigerian leaders, including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other officials to take swift action.

"Your duty is to safeguard Nigerian citizens. We are reaching out for help, as you are our last hope," he concluded.
