The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) has expressed its commitment to intensifying discussions surrounding corporate governance as it embarks on activities for the new year.
It's aiming for a profound influence on the governance sector while collaborating with key stakeholders across various industries.
During a press conference announcing the organization’s 60th anniversary celebrations, which included unveiling a new logo, Uto Ukpanah, the President and Chairman of the Governing Council at ICSAN, emphasized the importance of fostering awareness and informed decision-making among Nigerians as the nation approaches the 2027 election year.
Ukpanah highlighted that essential to these discussions is the establishment of effective corporate governance based on principles such as trust, transparency, and accountability.
Reflecting on the milestones achieved over the past sixty years, Ukpanah noted that the institute has played a pivotal role in shaping the corporate governance framework, influencing policy-making, advocating best practices, nurturing professionals across multiple sectors, and establishing itself as a leading professional organization in Nigeria.
She acknowledged the challenges and opportunities ahead, urging professionals to embrace innovation, adapt to evolving circumstances, and remain pertinent in a rapidly changing global landscape.
Activities to mark the institute's diamond jubilee will highlight its extensive history, including noteworthy plans such as the establishment of a new national secretariat. Ukpanah remarked that this project signifies a key investment in the sustainability and operational effectiveness of the institute.
She added that substantial progress has been made regarding the institute’s goal of facilitating the passage of the Chartered Governance Institute of Nigeria (CGIN) Bill through the National Assembly, a significant objective that the Governing Council is diligently pursuing.
Chairman of the ICSAN at 60 Committee, Francis Olawale, shared that the institute has collaborated with state governors to reinforce governance practices, which contributes to its efforts to impact governance in public sectors.
In the corporate sector, he mentioned plans to host meetings with Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) and chairpersons of various organizations to address boardroom challenges and exchange potential solutions.
