Olatunji Disu, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), cautioned newly promoted Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs) and Commissioners of Police (CPs) regarding indiscipline, misuse of authority, and neglect of their responsibilities.

This warning was issued on Monday during the ceremony held in Abuja to honor the newly promoted officers.

"From this point forward, you are not just senior officers; you are to act as strategic leaders within the Nigeria Police Force."

Disu stressed the expectation for them to model discipline, integrity, and adherence to the law in their decision-making and behavior.

He declared, "There must be a strict intolerance for indiscipline, corruption, or any actions that undermine duty among your subordinates."

The IGP called upon these senior officers to take complete charge of their teams, ensuring they provide consistent and effective guidance.

"You need to be acutely aware of the activities within your command at all times. Insufficient supervision may lead to increased misconduct; effective leadership is vital in maintaining standards,"

he remarked.

Disu emphasized the accountability that comes with their promotions, stating that he will closely monitor both operational effectiveness and the conduct of officers under their supervision.

The IGP also expressed the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to community- oriented policing, categorizing it as not an option but a fundamental operational guideline.

He urged the senior officers to advance a system of policing characterized by professionalism, human rights respect, and responsiveness to the needs of the public.

Importantly, he noted that officers must be present, approachable, and responsible, declaring that outdated methods of policing that alienate communities are now a thing of the past.

"It is crucial to establish trust through consistent effort. The successful collection of intelligence, crime prevention, and effective law enforcement are all enhanced when the community has faith in our actions,"

he added.

Disu urged the officers to promote reforms, adopt innovative practices, and enhance operational efficiency while dismantling obsolete practices incongruent with modern policing.

He highlighted that their recent promotions were a result of a careful, merit- based evaluation designed to elevate professionalism, capability, and integrity within the Nigeria Police Force.

Disu acknowledged that the officers earned their advancement through years of service and demonstrable skill, clarifying that this promotion carries a significant responsibility, rather than being simply a reward.

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has recently ratified the promotion of 13 Commissioners of Police to AIGs and 17 Deputy Commissioners of Police to Commissioners.
