Youths in the South East have been advised to refrain from undermining empowerment initiatives designed to foster economic participation and growth among Nigerian youth.
Innocent Shedrach Egede, the Director-General of the Tinubu Youth Vanguard Organisation (TYVO), issued this warning in response to the disruption of a youth empowerment event organized by the City Boy Movement in Owerri, Imo State.
The event was interrupted on Saturday when attendees and local residents reportedly invaded the location, leading to a stampede and the theft of materials intended for distribution to youths throughout the South East.
Egede expressed his disappointment over the disruption, labeling it as unfortunate and unpatriotic, and emphasized that such actions jeopardize authentic efforts aimed at empowering young Nigerians.
"It is disheartening that an event intended to elevate our youths and encourage economic inclusion was marred by disorderly conduct. Such actions deter developmental initiatives and rob deserving youths of the opportunities available to them," he stated.
He urged government authorities and community stakeholders to ensure that future empowerment events are held in safe and controlled environments.
Additionally, Egede called on Nigerians to be patient and supportive of the economic changes being implemented under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s leadership. He pointed out that the ongoing reforms in Nigeria call for collective patience and cooperation, noting that the Tinubu administration's policies aim to stabilize the economy and promote sustainable growth for all Nigerians.
