The Nigeria Youth in Parliament Forum (NYPF) has unveiled its initiative to train at least 1.1 million Nigerian youths in both information and communications technology (ICT) and electric vehicle (EV) technology as part of its Take Action Campaign (TAC).
Participants will be able to attend the training at no financial cost, and the forum is urging state governments to assist in the initiative by promoting participation through their respective youth affairs ministries to maximize involvement.
During a press conference held in Abuja on Thursday, Tony Nwulu, the Director- General of the Forum, remarked on the program's timely nature, emphasizing its role as a crucial intervention in the ongoing effort to advance youth development in Nigeria.
"Nigeria is at a pivotal moment concerning youth development," Mr. Nwulu noted, highlighting the urgency for substantial and structured skills development in light of the nation's rapidly growing young demographic and the evolving global economic landscape.
He elaborated that after extensive internal discussions, the Forum determined to focus on the Take Action Campaign as its principal national initiative for the current year. Under this campaign, two main programs have been prioritized: a National ICT Skills Training Programme and a National Electric Vehicle Technical Training Programme.
According to Mr. Nwulu, this initiative aims to be inclusive and scalable, ensuring fair benefits across all states and regions. "Our targets are ambitious yet necessary," he stated.
The ICT component of the training is planned to encompass a diverse array of sought-after digital skills, including the basics of cybersecurity, data privacy and protection, data analytics, cloud technologies, and data governance, as well as other relevant skills aligned with the demands of the global labor market.
Through these programs, the NYPF aims to bolster employability, encourage innovation, and promote economic participation among the youth of Nigeria.
As such, the Forum believes these training interventions are key to uplifting Nigeria’s youth and preparing them to thrive in a changing world.
