Authorities in Oyo State have commenced a probe regarding the demise of a teenage boy whose lifeless body was discovered in the swimming pool of the University of Ibadan.
DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, the spokesperson for the Oyo State Police Command, confirmed the incident through a statement on Saturday. According to the report from the Chief Security Officer of the university, the body of the victim, estimated to be between 14 to 15 years old, was located floating on the surface of the swimming pool on Thursday morning.
In response to the incident, police detectives promptly arrived at the scene. Their initial examination unveiled that the boy exhibited blood trickling from his mouth and nose, along with minor bruises on his face.
Olayinka further indicated that personal belongings presumed to belong to the deceased, such as a shirt and a pair of shoes, were found adjacent to the pool. Blood stains were also identified around the pavilion area of the swimming pool.
The police spokesperson stated that the body was subsequently transported to the General Hospital at Adeoyo, Ibadan, where he was confirmed dead upon arrival and later placed in the mortuary.
He clarified that the case is currently categorized as a suspected murder, and a thorough investigation is underway to unveil the events that led to this tragic incident.
Further, he called upon the public to maintain calmness and avoid disseminating unverified information as the investigation proceeds.
