Iran has voiced concerns regarding the inaction of key global institutions, highlighting what it deems a silence over the mounting crisis in the Middle East. The nation accused these organizations of neglecting their responsibilities toward ensuring worldwide peace.

During a press conference held in Abuja, Gholamreza Mahdavi Raja, the Iranian Ambassador to Nigeria, remarked that the lack of proactive measures from these international entities has not only encouraged aggressive behaviors in the region but has also diminished trust in the international security framework.

Particularly critical of the responses from both the United Nations and the European Union, the ambassador questioned the efficacy of their actions concerning the intensifying tensions in the Middle East.

He noted that the inability of the United Nations Security Council to hold an urgent meeting regarding the current state of affairs raises significant doubts about the credibility of bodies designed to uphold global order.

"The entire region is engulfed in conflict, yet no urgent discussions have been convened by the Security Council, nor has there been a robust response or a definitive statement,” he stated. “Where is the United Nations? Where is the European Union? These organizations were established to manage global security, yet today they remain silent."

The Iranian diplomat pointed out that the lack of strong diplomatic efforts fosters a perception that powerful nations, particularly the United States, wield undue influence over these institutions.

He warned that if these global entities do not take impartial stances against acts of aggression and politically motivated violence, they risk damaging their own legitimacy. “If international organizations choose to remain silent in such situations, they undermine their credibility,” he cautioned.

The ambassador went on to accuse Western powers of implementing destabilizing strategies across the Middle East, using conflicts in Lebanon, Syria, Yemen, and Iraq as examples of broader geopolitical tensions.

He reiterated that Iran's recent military actions targeting U.S. bases in the region were defensive measures in response to attacks against Iranian leaders. He asserted that these strikes were aimed at military targets and not civilian sites.

"Our actions are purely defensive. We are targeting those military facilities utilized against us,” he asserted. The ambassador also mentioned that Iran had communicated to its neighboring Gulf countries that its operations would be focused on American sites rather than urban areas.

Mahdavi Raja warned that the ongoing unrest could have far-reaching ramifications for the global economy, particularly affecting energy markets. He emphasized that instability near the strategic Strait of Hormuz could disrupt energy shipments, which account for a substantial portion of the world's oil and gas supply.

"Any conflict in this region will inevitably impact oil prices, transportation, and the global economy," he highlighted.

While affirming that Iran is not seeking war, the ambassador maintained that the defense of its sovereignty and national security is paramount. He added that the responsibility for mitigating tensions lies with those who instigated the conflict. Despite his criticisms of global organizations, he expressed Iran’s commitment to regional stability and peaceful coexistence, cautioning that continued inaction could further escalate tensions across the Middle East.
