Nigerian-born UFC fighter Israel Adesanya has experienced his fourth consecutive defeat in the octagon.

On Saturday night, March 28, he faced Joe Pyfer in Washington, D.C., where he was knocked out in the second round.

Entering the match in the midst of a challenging phase in his career, Adesanya initially performed well but was ultimately stopped by the #14-ranked contender in the middleweight division, succumbing within two rounds.

Adesanya secured the first round before attempting to clinch a decisive victory in the second round. However, Pyfer turned the tide by delivering substantial blows as the bout intensified into a back-and-forth fight.

The 29-year-old Pyfer then executed a takedown and took control once Adesanya was brought to the ground. Adesanya struggled to defend against the ground strikes that Pyfer effectively unleashed.

Eventually, the fight was halted by referee Herb Dean with just 42 seconds remaining in the second round.

At one point renowned for his prowess, Adesanya previously knocked out Alex Pereira at UFC 287 in April 2023.

Unfortunately, that victory marked the beginning of a downward spiral that he has yet to recover from, extending into his recent fight in Seattle.

Adesanya was also defeated by a unanimous decision against Sean Strickland in their UFC 293 title match, which included being dropped during the fight.

In August 2024, Dricus du Plessis managed to submit Adesanya to defend the title he had taken from Strickland just seven months earlier.

His losing streak continued at UFC Saudi Arabia in February 2025, when he was knocked out by Nassourdine Imavov within the first round, leaving his career uncertain.
