JASAWA Community Denounces Plateau Attack, Demands Justice

The Jasawa Community Development Association (JCDA) has strongly denounced the assault that occurred on Sunday evening, which resulted in multiple casualties and significant destruction of property in the Anguwan Rukuba area of Jos North, Plateau State.

In a statement released on Monday, the association's President, Alhaji Isyaku Inuwa Dan’anacha, and Secretary Sani Suleiman described the attack as "disturbing, criminal, and inhumane" towards the innocent residents of the community.

They extended their condolences to the victims’ families, urging the government to enact decisive measures to deliver justice for those affected.

Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants, arriving on motorcycles, stormed the community around 7:30 PM while residents were engaged in their daily activities. They discharged firearms indiscriminately, inciting terror among the locals.

"This senseless act of violence has resulted in tragic fatalities and several injuries, exacerbating grief within families and the broader community. We express our deepest sympathies to the victims, their families, and everybody affected by this dreadful act. Such violence undermines our shared humanity and threatens the peace for which Plateau State is renowned," the statement continued.

The JCDA commended the proactive measures undertaken by the Plateau State Government led by Governor Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, as well as the state's security forces for their swift response and continued vigilance in managing community safety during this challenging period.

However, the association condemned the retaliatory actions of certain individuals who resorted to blocking roads and assaulting innocent passersby in response to the attack. They described these retaliatory measures as unacceptable and detrimental to the community's wellbeing.

"We strongly disapprove of those who, in the wake of this tragic event, have chosen to take the law into their own hands by obstructing roads and attacking innocent individuals. Such behavior only compounds the tragedy," they stated, urging the security forces to take necessary actions to restore order.

Moreover, they called on the government and relevant security agencies to enhance intelligence gathering and increase surveillance efforts to capture the attackers. They also highlighted the need for inquiries into reports of a foreign national captured in a video at the attack scene making incendiary remarks.

Community leaders from every sector are encouraged to collaborate with government and security agencies for increased vigilance. Citizens are advised to remain calm, obey the law, and report any suspicious activities to the authorities without delay.

"We must not permit agents of chaos to disrupt our unity or jeopardize the fragile peace we have strived to maintain. We implore the Almighty to safeguard Plateau State and reveal those intent on instigating fear and discord for their malicious ends, ultimately granting lasting peace to our land."
