Sabo Muhammad Nakudu, who formerly represented Jigawa Central in the Senate, has officially switched his political affiliation from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). This move includes several other significant political figures from Jigawa State.
Among those who followed Nakudu in defecting are Bala Ibrahim Chamo, who previously served as Chairman of Dutse Local Government under ex-Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar, and Zakari Kafin Hausa, formerly a Special Adviser to Governor Malam Umar Namadi. Additionally, Zahraddeen Abubakar, ex-Chairman of Gwaram LGA, and Shehu Sule Udi, former Chairman of Ringim LGA, have also resigned from the APC.
The politicians announced their departures from the APC through separate statements.
Nakudu explained that the decision to leave the APC was motivated by a desire to join a more inclusive political platform that emphasizes grassroots development and internal party democracy. He conveyed his belief that the ADC presents a strong alternative capable of addressing the issues facing Jigawa State.
Furthermore, the former senator formally declared his intention to vie for the governorship position in the upcoming 2027 general elections on the ADC ticket.
“Our choice was made after careful consideration and discussions with our supporters. We are convinced that the ADC offers a viable platform to realize our vision for an improved Jigawa,” Nakudu stated.
This shift of key individuals from the APC to the ADC is anticipated to heighten political competition leading up to the 2027 elections.
Attempts to obtain an official comment from the APC leadership in Jigawa State were unsuccessful at the time of this report.
