The Government of Jigawa State has announced the dismissal of 22 vendors and companies participating in the ongoing Ramadan Iftar initiative, citing allegations of cheating, misrepresentation of food quality and quantity, as well as concerning financial practices.

This decision underscores the government's commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in a program aimed at providing meals for the state's vulnerable populations during the holy month.

Recall that the Ramadan Iftar program, spearheaded by Governor Umar Namadi, is intended to reach 7.9 million people across 640 free meal centers, thereby offering essential assistance and nutritious food to those in need during Ramadan 2026.

However, just two weeks into the initiative, a detailed supervisory report and field monitoring revealed significant misconduct by numerous vendors, triggered by various public complaints.

In response, the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Special Duties has acted swiftly, terminating the contracts of those implicated in the scandal.

Auwalu Sankara, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Special Duties, released a statement on Friday detailing that the dismissals were the result of serious misconduct, mismanagement of government finances, and inadequate execution of the program.

The affected individuals and companies include Haruna Ladan Inv. and Property (Jahun LGA); Musa A. Jibrin (Gwiwa 1, Jahun LGA); Nura Yahaya (Chukuto Ward, Taura LGA); Usman Umar Malam (Sarawa 1, Kafin Hausa LGA); Muhammad Suleiman (Sarawa 2, Kafin Hausa LGA); and several others from different local government areas.

Sankara stated, "These individuals and entities have been dismissed for gross misconduct, mismanagement of public funds, and poor handling of the program."

He further emphasized the government's unwavering commitment to upholding standards, stating, "We will not compromise on quality or deviate from our policies, especially during this holy month."

Sankara added that they are already in the process of engaging qualified contractors to take over the duties left by those dismissed.

The administration of Jigawa State has prioritized the well-being of its residents, with Sankara asserting, "The dismissals highlight the government's determination to safeguard public resources while ensuring the welfare of the people remains our top priority."

"The people of Jigawa deserve better. We will maintain accountability and continue to serve our citizens," Sankara assured, reiterating the government’s commitment to uphold high standards.

In conclusion, he expressed gratitude towards Governor Namadi for his support, stating that "the government will continue to work diligently to ensure the success of the program."
