The Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI) on Thursday voiced its dismay and condemnation over the triple bomb explosions that rocked Maiduguri, describing the attacks as barbaric.
In a statement issued by its Secretary-General, Professor Khalid Aliyu, the JNI called for immediate and decisive government intervention to address the incidents, which led to numerous fatalities and over 100 injuries, many critically.
The organization suggested that the attacks were carried out by adversaries of the state and indicated a potential resurgence of activity by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in the North-East.
The JNI expressed concern that these attacks are occurring at a time when many Nigerians had begun to believe that the insurgency was largely under control.
The group also highlighted a perceived decrease in vigilance among both security forces and the general public.
It noted that the repeated attacks in Borno and other regions are alarming and warned against becoming accustomed to the loss of lives.
The JNI advised security agencies to reassess their strategies and implement more proactive approaches to counter the evolving methods of insurgents.
Furthermore, the organization implored the Federal Government to take firm action, which should include a comprehensive review of the security framework and consistent updates on the security situation.
The JNI also emphasized the importance of enhancing intelligence gathering through greater cooperation between the public and security services.
Nigerians were urged by the JNI to maintain their vigilance and increase their prayers, particularly during the month of Ramadan.
The group additionally requested that the government provide compensation to the families affected by the attacks and ensure that those injured receive adequate medical treatment.
According to the statement, the President-General of JNI, the Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar, extended his condolences to the Borno State Government under Governor Babagana Zulum, the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, and the families of those who lost their lives.
