Singer K. Michelle, known for her role in The Real Housewives of Atlanta, has spoken about the severe health complications stemming from a "black market" Brazilian butt lift she received in 2012. She has reportedly spent nearly a decade seeking medical intervention to address the consequences of the illegal silicone injections.
Most recently, the 44-year-old artist underwent another reconstructive surgery to remove infected tissue from her buttocks, a direct result of earlier corrective procedures. Michelle revealed that the issues became acutely apparent shortly before she was scheduled to perform at the 2024 Academy of Country Music Awards, describing a situation where her buttocks began to leak.
"I was standing there in a bathrobe. Everyone was blow-drying me down, just to get me on stage to sing," she recounted. Overwhelmed by the memory and its implications, Michelle became emotional, expressing profound regret over her decision to pursue the cosmetic surgery. "I just hate that I did this to myself. It's the worst thing I ever did to myself, and I've paid for it for years," she stated tearfully.
Michelle clarified that the primary cause of her persistent health problems is the silicone injected into her body, which began to spread to her legs years after the initial procedure. "The actual thing that has made me sick isn't the BBL. It's the injections I got involving silicone," she explained. She added, "The hardest thing for me was learning that no matter what I do and how many surgeries, I will never get that silicone out of my body. It will be forever in me. I will never be fully healed."
Following the initial silicone injections in 2012, Michelle underwent further procedures, including fat transfer from her abdomen to her buttocks and hips, along with breast augmentation and rhinoplasty. She had previously told People magazine that her desire was "to look like a Coke bottle." The original procedure was performed by an individual in Atlanta whom she trusted after hearing about their services from a "favorite rapper."
"He wasn't a doctor. It was black market, it was these 'hydrogel' injections – that's what they were being called," she disclosed. The singer has spent the past ten years undergoing numerous surgeries in an attempt to rectify the damage to her body. At one point, her health deteriorated significantly, requiring two blood transfusions. "It's the scariest thing in life, and I'm a tough girl. I had these lumps, and I was very disfigured," she had previously commented.
A video discussing the ordeal was also shared.
