Nasiru Gawuna, the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Mortgage Bank of Nigeria (FMBN), has announced his resignation from the position. As the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the recent 2023 Kano State governorship election, Gawuna formally communicated his resignation through a letter dated March 27.

The resignation takes immediate effect and is aligned with a directive from the presidency to ensure compliance with electoral laws as the country prepares for upcoming political activities. In his resignation letter, Gawuna expressed his gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity he had to serve.

He characterized his tenure as a privilege that enabled him to contribute positively to the development of both the Federal Mortgage Bank and the wider housing sector in Nigeria. Gawuna stated, “My resignation is in strict compliance with the President’s directive requiring political appointees to step down in line with the provisions of the Electoral Act.”

He assured the board that he would facilitate a smooth transition by following due procedures to hand over his official responsibilities. There is speculation that Gawuna may be planning to run for an elective office in the next political cycle; however, he has not yet made any formal declarations regarding his candidacy or the specific position he aims to contest.
