The Kano State House of Assembly has clarified that recent allegations about an impending impeachment of Deputy Governor Alhaji Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo are entirely false.
In a statement made to reporters on Saturday in Kano, Kamaluddeen Sani Shawai, the spokesman for the Assembly, characterized the claims as baseless and misleading.
Shawai asserted, "There is no motion or initiative currently being considered by the House aimed at removing the Deputy Governor" and emphasized that such reports only serve to incite unnecessary anxiety within the state.
He called upon the public to dismiss these rumors, affirming that the Deputy Governor enjoys the unreserved backing of the legislative body.
Additionally, he urged media outlets and the community to fact-check their information prior to publication, warning that the spread of inaccurate news could threaten political stability.
According to Shawai, the Assembly remains committed to its constitutional duties, primarily focused on lawmaking and oversight, rather than indulging in speculative political activities.
"Our commitment lies in ensuring good governance and effectively serving the people of Kano, not in propagating unfounded rumors," he remarked.
This clarification comes in light of earlier comments from the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, who urged the Deputy Governor to resign during a radio segment due to alleged political disagreements.
