An 85-year-old man, Malam Isah Abdullahi, has received a 14-year prison sentence for r@pe following a trial conducted by the High Court in Gwarzo, Kano State.

Malam Isah Abdullahi, aged 85, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for r@pe by a High Court located in the Gwarzo Division of Kano State.

The court's conviction was achieved through the efforts of the Kano State Ministry of Justice, as they successfully prosecuted the case against Abdullahi in High Court No. 24.

The criminal act took place on November 30, 2024, in Sauna, within Gabasawa Local Government Area.

On March 27, 2026, a statement released by the ministry’s spokesperson, Najib Lawn Dambazau, indicated that the prosecution provided ample evidence that established the case without any reasonable doubt.

During the judgment, Justice Aisha Mahmud determined the defendant's guilt and imposed the 14-year sentence.

The trial court took into account a plea for leniency presented by the defense attorney prior to delivering the sentence.

The prosecution was led by Salisu Muhammad Tahir, the Solicitor-General and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Justice, alongside his legal team.

Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude (SAN), the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, praised the prosecuting team for their successful conviction, highlighting it as an example of the ministry’s dedication to delivering justice.

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding the rights and dignity of victims while ensuring that individuals who commit s3xual offenses and other acts of violence are brought to justice.
