The Kano State Hisbah Board has prohibited commercial tricycle operators, commonly known as Yanzu Adaidaita Sahu, from donning three-quarter trousers throughout Ramadan.

Mujahid Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander-General of the board, announced this ban in a statement on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, stating that those who disobey the order would face arrest and prosecution.

"Following the directives from our Commander-General, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, the board is set to launch a special operation during Ramadan," he said.

Aminuddeen emphasized that this special operation would be in effect throughout Ramadan in areas where immoral activities are suspected to occur.

He remarked that tricycle operators are also forbidden from playing music that might disturb passengers and residents in the city.

Additional prohibitions include the use of fireworks in any area of the city, inappropriate attire that reveals too much skin—particularly among young women—and the placement of suggestive posters and stickers on tricycles.

Furthermore, the mixing of genders in tricycles is banned, as is the practice of carrying passengers of the opposite sex by their sides.

Aminuddeen warned that tricycle operators who do not comply with these regulations will face severe legal consequences.

The board has also prepared to assign operatives to various mosques where special night prayers, such as Tarawihi and Tahajjud, are held to collaborate with other security agencies in bolstering safety, he added.

He reiterated that the board would not remain passive in the face of misconduct and immoral behavior by tricycle operators, especially during the sacred month of Ramadan.

It is worth noting that the Hisbah Board recently initiated an operation termed "Operation Kau da Badala," aimed at eradicating immorality in Kano State, comprising prostitution, substance abuse, and other social issues affecting the youth.

Some of the alleged violations by tricycle operators include inappropriate haircuts, riding in shorts, using improper advertisements on their vehicles, allowing the mingling of unrelated sexes, drug trafficking, and transporting women to places known for immoral activities, among others.

Ramadan holds significant value as a month of fasting, increased prayers, charitable actions, and spiritual rejuvenation in Islam, representing one of the five pillars of the faith and symbolizing adherence, self-control, and complete submission to God.
