The political landscape in Gombe State experienced a notable change on Monday as prominent executive members of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), and the Labour Party (LP) from Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC).
These defectors, who were part of local government and ward leadership structures, were officially welcomed by Inuwa Garba, the House of Representatives member representing the Yamaltu/Deba Federal Constituency.
During the reception, Garba highlighted the significance of this development for the ruling party, stating, "Today marks a significant moment for our great party in Yamaltu/Deba. The decision of these respected executives to align with the APC demonstrates the increasing trust our people have in our leadership and vision."
He reassured the newcomers that they would be treated fairly and fully included within the party. "The APC is a family. We don't discriminate. Every member who joins us will have equal opportunities to contribute to the growth and success of the party," Garba emphasized.
The lawmaker reiterated that the APC is dedicated to promoting grassroots development and providing responsive representation, stating, "Our commitment is to deliver dividends of democracy to our people. This movement is more than just about politics; it is about progress, unity, and sustainable development."
A spokesperson for the defecting group expressed that their decision was motivated by the desire to align with a party they believe can better serve the people's interests. He stated, "After extensive consultations, we decided to join the APC because we are convinced that it offers a more practical platform for advancing our communities' interests."
The event attracted various party stakeholders, supporters, and community leaders, highlighting what observers see as a strengthening of the APC's influence in the region. Despite the short notice for media coverage, members were present to document the proceedings.
These latest defections are expected to reinforce the APC's presence in Yamaltu/Deba as political realignments continue throughout the state.
