Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has issued a stern warning to the public against disseminating information regarding troop movements, asserting that such disclosures are inadvertently aiding bandits and jeopardizing the lives of security personnel.

Speaking on Tuesday during a visit to soldiers who sustained injuries from a recent ambush, the governor highlighted that certain members of the public provide intelligence that enables attackers to identify and target military units. He characterized this behaviour as an act of sabotage, emphasizing the considerable sacrifices security operatives are making to ensure the nation's safety.

Last Thursday, a coordinated attack by suspected bandits in the Mari and Dina communities of Patigi Local Government Area in Kwara State resulted in the deaths of at least five residents and three soldiers. The raid also led to the abduction of several women and children.

Governor AbdulRazaq, who was received by Brigadier General Nicholas Nemetne Rume, Commander of the 22 Armoured Brigade, and Professor Abdullah Dasilva Yussuf, the Chief Medical Director of the hospital, visited the injured personnel at a medical facility in Ilorin.

During his visit, the governor announced financial support for the affected families, pledging N60 million for the families of the three soldiers who lost their lives and N5 million for each of the three injured personnel.

He explained that this financial assistance is intended to provide immediate relief while formal compensation from the Ministry of Defence is processed.

“We are here to visit the soldiers who were ambushed by bandits. Unfortunately, we lost three of them, while three others are receiving treatment. What we can do is to pray for them and support the families of those who died. May their souls rest in peace”, the governor stated in a release made by Deputy Chief Press Secretary, Mashood, Abdulrafiu Agboola, on Tuesday night.

He further noted that the donation to the bereaved families is a provisional measure until the relevant authorities assume responsibility for their welfare.

The governor emphasized that the incident underscores the daily dangers faced by security personnel, who consistently operate on the front lines to protect citizens.

“This shows the danger that security men go through every day. They are always in line of danger to keep us safe,” he remarked.

He urged the populace to actively support security agencies by providing valuable information and to refrain from any actions that could compromise ongoing operations.
