Suspected armed bandits kidnapped the wife and son of a well-known figure, Alhaji Abass, famously known as Daniyan Saba, in the Ndeji community of the Lafiagi Emirate, within the Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State.

The victims were taken over the weekend but reportedly escaped from their captors while being led further into the forest.

Local residents informed Daily Trust that the gunmen invaded the community early on Saturday, which resulted in widespread panic before the victims were forcibly taken away to an undisclosed location.

Reports received on Tuesday revealed that the kidnapped individuals were later discovered in the Oreke community.

In a conversation over the phone on Wednesday, a vigilante leader in Gbugbu named Gina Muhammad confirmed both the abduction and the victims' eventual escape.

He noted that the victims are Alhaji Abbas's wife and son, who had previously experienced their father's kidnapping, during which he spent over a month held by bandits before being released.

"We learned that it was during the kidnappers' attempt to cross the Kogi highway that they managed to escape. However, it remains unclear whether any ransom was paid for the release of his wife and child this time," Muhammad stated.

Alhaji Abbas had earlier disclosed to Daily Trust that he along with his manager, Mallam Abubakar Issa, were freed after a ransom of N105 million was paid to their captors.
