The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with MTN Nigeria, is set to redevelop the Obalende under bridge into a contemporary and eco-friendly transport hub.
This announcement was made on January 27, 2026, by the Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, through a social media post.
Wahab expressed his satisfaction with the collaboration, stating, “I am pleased to announce that the Lagos State Government is working alongside MTN Nigeria to revamp the Obalende under-bridge, creating a modern transport facility known as the Y’ELLO Bus Park.”
He highlighted that the initiative aims to convert a neglected area into a secure and community-oriented transport hub, improving mobility and environmental standards.
The commissioner noted, “This redevelopment will change a previously notorious and degraded space into a functional and safe facility. The new bus park will feature an organized transport terminal, a recycling drop-off point, a workspace for LAWMA sweepers and security personnel, over 60 public restrooms, kiosks, and other amenities tailored for both commuters and local residents.”
Wahab emphasized that the project prioritizes safety, sanitation, and urban aesthetics, with infrastructure designed to mitigate crime and enhance visibility during nighttime.
In addition, he mentioned that environmental management would be integral to the redevelopment effort, implementing systems for responsible waste and wastewater handling.
“A biodigester system will help manage the wastewater generated within the park sustainably, while a recycling station will discourage improper waste disposal in the vicinity,” Wahab added.
He further noted that the project aligns with Lagos State’s climate initiatives, incorporating renewable energy and greenery into the environment.
“In our commitment to climate responsibility, the project includes solar panel installation to boost energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Tree planting is also on the agenda to enhance air quality and improve the area’s visual appeal,” he stated.
Wahab affirmed that the initiative is reflective of governmental goals to reclaim public spaces and ensure they are functional, safe, and sustainable for citizens.
“This project signifies our dedication to revitalizing public areas to serve the needs of Lagosians in a modern and responsible manner,” he remarked.
In conclusion, he reiterated the administration’s pledge to create a cleaner and more resilient city, stating, “Together, we aim to cultivate a cleaner, safer, and more resilient Lagos.”
The Y’ELLO Bus Park initiative is expected to enhance transportation organization in Obalende while addressing environmental, safety, and commuter welfare issues in one of Lagos’s busiest areas.
