The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has successfully rescued an 84-year- old man from a well in the Aboru area of Agbado-Okeodo Local Council Development Area.
Margaret Adeseye, the Controller General of the agency, confirmed the rescue in a statement released on January 27, 2026. Initial investigations indicate that the elderly man may have attempted suicide by jumping into the 140-foot deep well.
According to the report, the service received an emergency call at 10:09 am regarding the incident, which prompted the deployment of a rescue team to the location.
"The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at precisely 10:09 hours, regarding a rescue operation at No. 35A, Fadeyemi Street, Pipeline, Aboru in the Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State," the statement detailed.
Upon receiving the distress call, the rescue crew, alongside members from the Abesan Fire Station, quickly mobilized and arrived at the scene by 10:20 am.
The case involved an 84-year-old man who reportedly fell into a well that was measured to be about 140 feet deep. Preliminary assessments suggest a potential suicide attempt, as the well was adequately secured and protected.
The rescue team successfully retrieved the victim and handed him over to family members for further necessary support.
