Lamine Yamal, a young talent playing for Barcelona, has expressed that the Ballon d'Or is no longer on his mind, noting that his priorities have shifted towards achieving success as a team with both club and country.
The Spanish international ranked second in the 2025 Ballon d'Or voting, falling short to Paris Saint-Germain's Ousmane Dembélé, despite a highly successful season with Barcelona that saw him secure the La Liga, Copa del Rey, and Supercopa de España titles.
In a conversation with Mundo Deportivo, Yamal indicated that individual accolades are largely unpredictable and beyond a player's sole influence. He emphasized that his focus is now dedicated to aiding Barcelona and Spain in their pursuit of significant achievements.
"I don’t think about it. It’s an award that, if you focus on it too much, you won’t get any answers," he remarked. "It depends on what you win, how you play, and who votes. It’s not solely determined by your performances."
The young player mentioned that he values enjoyment and teamwork more than personal accolades.
"I just want to enjoy myself and win with Barca and the national team," Yamal stated. "My game isn’t based on statistics. Sometimes I might play well without scoring, and at times I score without having a great performance. But my aim is to deliver well, assist the team in winning, and maintain that consistency."
