Liverpool manager Arne Slot has expressed that his main focus is on playing attractive and entertaining football rather than just accumulating trophies at Anfield.
During a conversation on The Reds Roundtable, Slot reflected on the satisfaction he gained from the style of football his team showcased during the previous season's Premier League title run, which he equated with the joy of winning the championship.
"As a manager, you can secure the league title, the Champions League, or various domestic cups, but the ultimate achievement is providing fans with enjoyable football," Slot remarked.
The Dutch coach acknowledged that some fans may disagree with his viewpoint, yet he firmly believes in his philosophy.
"While fans might contest this notion temporarily, it remains a fundamental goal for me. I always strive for possession and intensity, wanting our supporters to enjoy what they witness on the pitch," he stated.
Slot elaborated that failing to entertain supporters during games weighs more heavily on him than disappointing results or league standings.
"That is my greatest frustration. I would say it bothers me even more than our results or our place in the league; I want our fans to find joy in every moment of the match," he noted.
He recognized the frustrations fans experience, admitting that he often resonates with their critiques. "The most challenging aspect is understanding their concerns because I often agree with them," Slot shared.
Though he acknowledges the importance of trophies, Slot insists that a strong identity and philosophy are more crucial for a club than solely winning silverware.
"Winning trophies is one aspect. However, being a team, a club, or a manager that stands for something meaningful in terms of quality football is, I believe, more valuable in the long run."
