Maduka University celebrated a significant milestone with its third matriculation ceremony, where 967 students were officially welcomed for the academic year. The event took place at the university’s international stadium, attracting notable figures, educators, and various stakeholders from the South-East and beyond.
Chancellor and Founder Samuel Maduka Onyishi delivered a keynote address emphasizing the university's vision towards establishing a system that is both sustainable and value-driven. He stated, “The university is not a 100-metre race but a marathon, a continuous process,” outlining the institution's long- term commitment to quality education.
Dr. Onyishi pointed out the university's focus isn't merely on increasing enrollment numbers but is also geared towards providing a conducive environment and robust facilities that foster effective learning. Additionally, he noted the importance of integrating innovation and technology into the academic framework, underscoring that enduring institutions are shaped by a clear vision, strong discipline, and core values.
Vice-Chancellor Samuel Chijioke Ugwu, who delivered the matriculation lecture, highlighted education's crucial role as a driver of sustainable development and relevance. He stated, “Universities must produce solutions, not just certificates,” and asserted that sustainability transcends being a mere slogan; it requires a disciplined approach to building for future generations.
Ugwu further stressed the necessity for curriculum reform, promoting industry- driven, research-based methodologies that encourage creativity, critical thinking, and real-world impact. The Vice-Chancellor reiterated the university's philosophy of “new thinking,” aimed at cultivating entrepreneurial graduates equipped with essential leadership and decision- making skills.
The matriculation ceremony not only marks the beginning of an academic journey for the new students but also reaffirms the university's dedication to aligning its educational practices with global standards in sustainability and innovation.
