A man is accused of killing his wife by shooting her after she insisted that he clean the house before they embarked on a trip.

According to reports from the Louisville Metropolitan Police, which were obtained by local news outlet WLKY, officers responded to a shooting reported at 4:16 p.m. on March 14, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky.

The police indicated that 57-year-old Patrick Brents allegedly took the life of his wife, Carolyn Ross-Brents, after an argument escalated.

Police attended the scene of the shooting incident

Brents stated that he had reached for a gun while he was leaving their home when the weapon unexpectedly discharged.

Court documents revealed that before the tragic event, Ross-Brents had told her husband he needed to organize the home before they left, as she preferred to return to a clean domicile.

This request reportedly triggered a dispute that culminated in Brents retrieving a firearm from the bedroom, as per the news outlet's coverage.

A witness present in the household is said to have warned Brents against shooting his mother, to which he responded defiantly, asking, "What are you going to do about it?"

Following the alleged shooting, the witness recounted seeing his mother collapse after being struck in the abdomen, prompting him to rush outside and ask his cousin to call emergency services.

Reports indicate that Brents stayed at the scene and faced charges related to domestic violence assault.
