Law enforcement officials in Anambra State have taken into custody 35-year-old Chukwudalu Ezeani as a suspect in the murder of his cousin, Chinedu Ezeani, aged 52. The arrest occurred in Amichi, located in Nnewi South Local Government Area.

Tochukwu Ikenga, the spokesperson for the Anambra police, provided this information in a statement issued in Awka on Wednesday.

According to Ikenga, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) uncovered an eight-month-old case regarding a reported missing individual. The suspect's arrest has shed light on the details surrounding the incident.

He noted that preliminary investigations indicated that Chukwudalu Ezeani allegedly committed the act at about 8:00 p.m. on August 1, 2025, within his residence in Afube Village, Amichi, where he subsequently buried the deceased in a shallow grave on his property.

Ikenga revealed that the suspect concealed the murder for nearly eight months before being apprehended.

“This case was initially reported as a missing person at the local police station in Amichi. However, following the acquisition of credible intelligence, our detectives revisited the incident and arrested the suspect,” he stated.

During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime and led the police operatives to the burial location within his compound, where the remains were subsequently exhumed.

Ikenga confirmed that the corpse has been sent for forensic analysis, and once investigations are completed, the suspect will be charged in court.

He reiterated the police command's dedication to delivering justice and urged community members to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station without delay.
